What Is a Silent Disco?

A silent disco is an event where guests listen to music through wireless LED headphones instead of loudspeakers. Radio transmitters broadcast up to three separate music channels at the same time, and guests switch between channels using a button on their headset.

The LED colour on each headphone changes to show which channel the wearer has selected - red, green, or blue - so you can see at a glance what others are listening to. Silent discos are used at festivals, weddings, house parties, corporate events, schools, and anywhere with noise restrictions.

A silent disco works using radio frequency transmitters that broadcast music wirelessly to LED headphones. Each transmitter is connected to a separate music source and broadcasts on its own channel. Guests put on the headphones, select a channel using a button on the headset, and adjust the volume to suit them.

Our system supports three simultaneous channels, each connected to a different music source - a phone, laptop, DJ controller, or tablet. Because transmission uses radio frequencies rather than Bluetooth or WiFi, the signal is stable, has a range of up to 120 metres, and works perfectly indoors and outdoors.

Our silent disco headphones have a wireless range of up to 120 metres from the transmitter. In most indoor venues this is more than sufficient to cover the entire space. Outdoors in open space the range can be greater.

Range may be reduced by thick walls, metal structures, or interference from other wireless equipment. For best results, position transmitters centrally in the venue rather than in corners or behind metal objects.

Our headphones provide up to 10 hours of continuous use on a full charge - enough for most evening events and all-day festivals. All headsets are fully charged before dispatch. For multi-day events or extended hire, headphone chargers can be added to your package.

Headphones use USB rechargeable batteries, so there are no disposables to replace mid-event.

Our transmitters connect to any device via Bluetooth or 3.5mm headphone jack - including phones, laptops, tablets, and DJ controllers. Each rental includes three transmitters for three simultaneous music sources. All cables and adapters are supplied.

Yes - every headphone has individual volume controls. Each guest can set their own listening level independently, making silent discos comfortable and safe for everyone from young children to older guests.

Yes - all headphones are cleaned and sanitised between every hire. Ear pads and headbands are sprayed down as standard before each order is packed and dispatched. All units are also fully charged before leaving us. If you would like to spray them down again on arrival you are welcome to do so - standard antibacterial spray is fine to use on the ear cushions and headband.

Yes, our headphones work well with most hearing aids. They can be worn over behind-the-ear hearing aids and the padded cushions provide a comfortable fit. Users can adjust the volume independently to their preferred level.

Our standard transmitters require a mains power socket to operate, but they also have a built-in battery that provides around 4 hours of use without mains power. This makes them suitable for most outdoor events where a power source is nearby or temporarily available.

For fully off-grid events - beaches, woodland, parks, or venues with no electricity - we also hire AA battery-powered transmitters which run entirely without mains power for as long as needed. Just mention this when you enquire and we will include them in your package. The headphones themselves are always fully wireless with 10 hours of battery life.

No. Our equipment uses radio frequency transmission, not WiFi. Transmitters broadcast music directly to headphones within 120 metres with no internet connection required. WiFi or mobile data is only needed if you plan to stream music online from Spotify, YouTube, or Apple Music through your own device.

The LED colours on silent disco headphones indicate which music channel the wearer is listening to. Each colour corresponds to a different channel:

Dry hire means renting the silent disco equipment only, without a DJ or music service included. You supply your own music sources - phones, laptops, or DJ equipment - and connect them to our transmitters yourself. This is the most popular option for private parties, weddings, and corporate events where organisers already have their own music planned. All our standard hire packages are dry hire. DJ packages are available separately if required.

A DJ at a silent disco connects their mixer or controller to one of our radio transmitters, which broadcasts their set wirelessly to guests' headphones. With three transmitters, you can have up to three DJs performing simultaneously - each on a separate channel. Guests choose which DJ to listen to by switching channels on their headset. The coloured LEDs show which DJ has the most listeners, creating a friendly competition on the dance floor.

A refundable equipment deposit is only required for private hires with more than 70 headphones. For hires under 70 headphones, or businesses and schools paying by invoice, no deposit is required.

Delivery & Logistics

Yes - we deliver to any UK address by free DPD next-day courier. We supply silent disco hire nationwide, including London, Essex, Surrey, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Bristol, Brighton, Edinburgh, and everywhere in between. View our full list of covered locations.

Equipment is dispatched 3–4 working days before your event via DPD next-day courier. You receive live tracking with a 1-hour delivery slot so you are not waiting in all day.

Return collection is scheduled for the next working day - so early Monday afternoon for weekend hires - again with DPD tracking and a 2-hour collection slot. Delivery and collection are free to any UK address. No drop-off or pickup required on your part.

We recommend booking 4–6 weeks in advance to guarantee availability, especially for peak periods - June, July, and December get very busy. That said, we often accommodate last-minute bookings with as little as one week's notice. Contact us to check your date.

For weekend events, the standard hire period covers the full weekend - equipment is delivered 3–4 days before your event and collected on the Monday afternoon after. This means for a Saturday party you typically have the kit from Tuesday or Wednesday through to Monday, giving you plenty of time to set up, run your event, and pack down at your own pace. For mid-week events, collection is arranged for the following day. Multi-day hire for festivals and extended events is available - just let us know your dates.

Yes - you can rearrange your delivery date directly through DPD. Once your order is dispatched you will receive a DPD tracking notification by text or email. From there you can use the DPD app or the link in the notification to choose a more convenient delivery date. Please note that while you can change the delivery date, specific time slots cannot be selected - DPD will provide a 1-hour window on the day of delivery.

Most issues are resolved within minutes over the phone and are usually user error rather than a fault with the equipment. All equipment is tested before dispatch to minimise the chance of any fault.

We include a small number of spare headsets in every order to cover any issues on the night. In the event of loss or significant damage beyond fair wear and tear, we reserve the right to charge a replacement fee. We ask that all equipment is returned in the same condition it was sent.

First, check the headset is powered on, the volume is turned up fully, and it is set to the correct channel. If you are not getting sound, try moving closer to the transmitter and check all cables are firmly connected. Most issues are resolved in seconds. Booking & Cancellation

Booking is simple. Fill out our online enquiry form or email us with your event date and number of headphones required. We will reply with an instant quote, availability, and payment details. Once confirmed, we handle the rest.

Here is exactly what happens from booking to event day:

  1. Booking confirmation - once payment is received we send a confirmation email with full instructions, setup guides, and everything you need to prepare for your event.
  2. Balance reminder - if a smaller deposit was taken at booking, we will email you to collect the remaining balance approximately 4 weeks before your event date.
  3. Dispatch & delivery - your equipment is delivered with DPD 3–4 working days before your event. You will receive a DPD tracking notification with a live 1-hour delivery slot sent on the morning of delivery day.
  4. Event day support - our 24/7 support line (02081 504168) is available throughout your event if you need any help.
  5. Collection - DPD will collect the equipment on the Monday afternoon after your event with a tracked 2-hour slot. Just repack everything in the original box and leave it ready.

That's it - no drop-offs, no complicated returns. Everything is handled for you.

Booking deposits are non-refundable. Cancellations within 28 working days of the event incur a 100% fee. Cancellations made more than 28 working days before the event incur a 50% fee. Please contact us for exceptional circumstances - we aim to be as flexible as possible.
